Goalscorer Rekeil Pyke believes a week on the training pitch paid dividends with Wrexham’s 4-1 home win against Ebbsfleet United.
Pyke returned to the starting line-up and grabbed his third goal of the season – another backheel – as part of an explosive start which saw the Dragons race into a 4-0 half-time lead.
Pyke and fellow strikers Chris Holroyd and Stuart Beavon all netted, before a header from captain Shaun Pearson.
And Pyke was happy with the way he, Holroyd and Beavon had linked up during the storming start to the game.
“I’m very happy with the result, but mostly happy with the performance,” he said. “We worked well in training this week, worked on different things and showed that in the game.
“We kept the ball really well and I thought we worked well as a front three.
“The start was electric to be fair. As a front three we worked well together, we were filling in for each other when we needed to and we took our goals well.”
And he admitted the confidence is flowing too, after scoring his third back-heeled goal of the season.
“It’s always good to play with confidence, because then you ultimately play well – and I’m happy to score another backheel,” he admitted.
“They were dropping really deep in the box, so I thought to stay a bit higher and luckily Beavs’ picked me out and I finished it well.”
“[In the second-half] we tried to create more chances, and ultimately stay focused because the game can change and we saw that with them getting a goal back.
“But in the second half, we regained composure on the ball again and controlled the game really well.”
