SIGNED | Goalkeeper Rob Lainton Joins Wrexham On-Loan From Port Vale

Wrexham Football Club would like to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Rob Lainton on a season-long loan from League Two club Port Vale.

The 28-year-old stopper becomes manager Sam Ricketts fourth signing of the summer completing the first team goalkeeping set-up alongside Christian Dibble. 

Rob started last season as Vale’s number one and can count then Premiership side Bolton Wanderers and Bury as his former clubs while he’s also taken short-term loan spells at Burton Albion and Cheltenham Town.

Speaking to the club website this morning, Rob Said: “I’m delighted to come to Wrexham on-loan for this season. 

“It’s a fantastic club, a big club and I want to play a part in a successful season for us. There is no doubt when you come here and see the facilities and stature of the club we should be in the Football League and that’s clearly everyone’s aim here.”

Elaborating on his new environment he said: “It’s a season-long loan which gives me an opportunity for a new challenge. I’m really looking forward to meeting the rest of the lads this morning and getting started.”  

“Hopefully I’ll get some game time against Airbus and Louletano, I’m ready to go. The club have a good pre-season schedule and I’m looking forward to taking part” He said.

Manager Sam Ricketts commented: “I’m really pleased that Rob has chosen to come to Wrexham on loan for next season.

“He’s a keeper with really good ability. He has come through a Premiership academy at Bolton and played league football through his career so far.   

“It’s another part of the jigsaw complete. It’s great to have another keeper through the door, Christian and Rob will now be able to push each other during pre-season and in training.”
