Wrexham AFC have agreed to take over the contract of goalkeeper Rob Lainton from League Two club Port Vale making him a Wrexham player until the end of the 2018-19 season.

Rob joined Wrexham on a season-long loan deal initially from the Valiants in July and has been keen to make the switch a permanent one since nailing down his place in the side this season.

The 29-year-old has settled in very well at the Racecourse starting in all of the clubs 22 games so far keeping 14 clean sheets along the way.

Before his recent stint at Port Vale, Rob can count Bolton Wanderers and Bury as his former clubs while he’s also taken short-term loan spells at Burton Albion and Cheltenham Town.

Speaking of his move Lainton said: “I’m delighted to make it a certainty that I can stay at Wrexham until the end of the season. I’ve enjoyed every minute and this deal means I can carry on with the job I have started and can’t be re-called for whatever reason.

“Everyone has been fantastic with me from day one. The lads, the manager, the coaching staff, everyone that works here behind the scenes and the supporters.

“I have really enjoyed it. We have done really well so far and I’m really happy to have played my part in a fantastic start to the season and reaching the second round of the FA Cup.”
