After plenty of discussions, which also involved other clubs and leagues, we have finally been able to set a date for our Third Round Qualifying tie in the FA Youth Cup at Gateshead.
The match will be played on Friday, 20 October at the International Stadium with a 7.00pm kick-off.
As seems to happen so often with games in this competition, outside forces cut across available dates to reduce the options.
The Reds have two players away with Wales U17s, who don't return from Hungary until next Tuesday, while the Heed have trouble booking their home venue at short notice, due to other sports using the faclities.
This meant that Monday and Tuesday evenings were out of contention.
Like oursleves, they are away in the FA Cup this weekend, at Buxton, so have the stadium booked for a possible replay on the Wednesday evening.
To guarantee that the tie went ahead next week, as requested by the FA, due to the following round being only two weeks later - it was agreed that Friday would be the most acceptable date.
While Youth Cup ties take preference over all but first team matches, we are still grateful to both Walsall and the EFL for allowing us to postpone our Youth Alliance League Cup group game from the following Saturday until Tuesday, 5 December.
This in itself was not an easy task to re-arrange, due to the Saddlers' involvement in the Central League, plus Walsall, Birmingham and Staffordshire Senior cups. But as always, the Midlands club were more than willing to work with us and their co-operation was very welcome.
So for the second time in only a few years, our youth squad will make the 195 mile journey north to Tyneside to face the Heed with the aim of making the First Round Proper.
