Attack minded Ponticelli began his career with hometown club Coventry City who following his football education at the Ricoh signed senior terms with the Sky Blues.
Ponticelli made his debut in August 2017 in the EFL Cup, with Coventry bowing out in a 3-1 loss at home to Blackburn Rovers. His first goal came in October 2017 in a 2-2 draw with Walsall in the EFL Trophy.
Ponticelli eventually made his league debut days later in a 0-0 draw against Barnet in League Two. In the FA Cup he'd go on to score a brace against Maidenhead before grabbing three goals in a week against Notts County and Crawley in April 2018.
Having won promotion via the play-offs with Coventry, Ponticelli went out on loan the next season joining Macclesfield on a short-term deal, making four appearances. After a handful of appearances in League One, Ponticelli joined Tranmere Rovers on loan in 2019.20 making nine appearances.
After a frustrating spell at Prenton Park he arrived at the Racecourse in January 2020, making his debut in a 2-0 win over Harrogate Town. A week later he scored his first goal for the club away at Chesterfield before netting a week later at Bromley. The season was ended prematurely with the forward having made five appearances and scoring twice.
He returned to Coventry but in August 2020 Wrexham successfully signed Ponticelli for an undisclosed fee on a two-year deal.
