Young began his career when he joined Plymouth Argyle as a nine-year old. He worked his way through the age groups and played reserve team football whilst still a schoolboy.
In January 2011 he was promoted to the first-team with Argyle made his debut against AFC Bournemouth as a substitute in League One.
Young’s first start came on his 18th birthday came in a 4-0 loss away to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The following season Young came into his own scoring his first goal against the club he’d go on to join, Torquay United in January 2012. He’d go on to earn the clubs ‘Young Player of the Season’ award as his side secured their safety in the Football League.
After three years in the first-team making 99 league appearances, Young left Home Park and would go on to join Torquay in the summer of 2014. He made his debut in August 2014 in a 3-1 loss away at Gateshead and grabbed his first Gulls goals when grabbing a brace in a 4-0 win over Nuneaton at Plainmoor.
He’s faced Wrexham on a number of occasions but his first game stands out, as he scored a stunning volley beating a helpless Daniel Bachmann in Devon.
He spent four years with United and in 2018 earned the Player of the Season award, his second season doing so on the trot, before departing to join Ricketts’ squad at the Racecourse on a 2-year deal.
