PREVIEW | Spennymoor v Wrexham

6 August 2021

Wrexham's fourth and final scheduled pre-season game takes place this weekend with supporters once again able to attend. National League North side Spennymoor will be a difficult test for stand-in boss Steve Parkin.

Tough Test

Wrexham's previous three games have come against PL2, Southern League and a League One XI in Burnley, Tamworth and Fleetwood. Spennymoor are expected to be a tough physical side who've challenged for promotion to non-league's top tier. The Moors boast former Wrexham midfielder Adriano Moke in their ranks whilst free-scoring striker Glen Taylor has surpassed 100 goals in the black and white of Spennymoor.

We've Met Before

We've never met the current guise of Spennymoor Town but did face off against Spennymoor United on a couple of occasions. In 1932 we ran out 3-0 winners at the Racecourse in the FA Cup, whilst we had to wait another 37 years for another game - beating the Moors 4-1 at Brewery Field in our only visit - also coming in the FA Cup.

Team News

Goalkeeper Rob Lainton could miss out this weekend with a back problem but Jamie Reckord may well play his first minutes of the summer after recovering from illness.
