ABANDONED | Aldershot game is called off in the 52nd minute

Reds lead 2-0 at the time of the abandonment.

2 October 2021

The match at Aldershot was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch, with Wrexham leading 2-0.

The visitors were frustrated to see their efforts count for nothing, especially as goals from Jake Hyde and Paul Mullin had put them in control, and both Luke Young and Ben Tozer had been forced off with injuries.

However, referee Sunny Gill had no option but to halt play as surface water meant the ball would not roll naturally on the pitch.

Gill insisted on a pitch inspection at half time to gauge the conditions, and although the game restarted as planned, it was immediately apparent that the pitch was problematic in the corner of the pitch which Aldershot's right back was defending.

After 52 minutes, as the rain continued to pour, the ball began to halt in midfield and Gill had no option but to stop play.

Attempts were made to make the ptich playable, with many of the Wrexham players helping out, but with the rain showing no sign of abating, it was a losing battle and eventually Gill had to call the match off.

Obviously, we can only apologise to the superb supporters who made the journey to Hampshire and gave the players terrific support throughout.

We will bring news of the rearranged fixture once it has been arranged.
